Japanese Meiji Period large bronze koi design vase and matching stand. The koi and water are done in low and medium relief. The eyes are inlaid with gold. A beautifully designed and executed piece. By artist KANO SEIUN. Kano Seiun was born Kano Ginzaburo in Tokyo in 1871. He studied with artist, Oshima Joun and was active in the Meiji, Taisho and Early Showa Periods. His work is part of the Tokyo National Museum collection. The stamp of the artist is on bottom of vase. The stamp reads DAI NIHON KANO SEIUN CHU (cast by Kano Seiun). The overall height is 32". The vase is 17.5" tall with a diameter of 16". The width of base is 20". |
