Japanese Early 20th Century (Taishō to Early Showa) cast bronze vase by Art Deco metal artist Tsuda Shinobu (1875-1946).
The beautifully cast bronze vase is modeled with crisp angular handles and sharp geometric fanned overlapped ridge design on both sides.
The artist has signed the vase on the underside with an etched signature.

TSUDA SHINOBU (1875 - 1946)
MASTER METAL ARTIST
Born in Chiba Prefecture. He studied under Okazaki Sessei and graduated from the Tokyo School of the Fine Arts in 1900. In 1902 he returned to the school as an assistant professor, becoming a full professor in 1909. He began exhibiting his work in Meiji 40 (1907) at the Kangyo Hakurankai (Tokyo Industrial Exposition). A juror and exhibitor to the Paris Exposition in 1925, Tsuda Shinobu was twice decorated by the government of France, in 1928 and in 1933. In 1935 he became a member of the Teikoku Bijutsu-in (Imperial Academy of Art) and in 1937 of the Teikoku Geijutsu-in (Imperial Arts Academy). An exhibitor at the Teiten, the Hoshukuten and Shin-buten, Tsuda was one of the foremost artists working in metal in the early decades of the 20th Century. He was the father of metal artist Tsuda Eiju (1915-2001).
