Japanese Mid 20th Century mingei (folk art) dento kokeshi-ningyō (traditional kokeshi doll). Beautifully hand made and painted from two pieces of wood. Signed by the artist at the base. This doll stands 12 1/4" tall with a 3 3/8" diameter head and a 2 15/16" diameter base.
Kokeshi dolls are wonderful examples of mingei or folk craft from Japan, that express the beauty of minimalism in design and the respect for the dento or traditional design, that is repeated by the artisans to follow the established design of their particular village's kokeshi-ningyō.
