Description: Japanese 19th century lacquer incense box. The covered box has an upper compartment that fits into the top of the box. This upper compartment is lined in a silk and paper liner and contains 6 small covered lacquered boxes. Each box measures 1 1/2" wide by 1 7/8" long by 1 3/16" tall. The upper compartment has a hole in the bottom. The design of the outer box is done with cranes and tortoise with pine trees and bamboo. The outer box measures 4 5/8" wide by 5 1/2" long by 4 1/4" tall.
