Name: JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD BRONZE VASE WITH GOLD AND SILVER INLAYS BY
SOLD
Inventory #: JM-68
Description: Japanese Meiji Period bronze vase with skull and whisk done in gold, silver and copper inlays. The skull and whisk are done in high relief. The handle of the whisk is done in copper and the string attached to the end of the whisk is done in gold. There is a poem etched into the metal in back. The poem essentially says, "No matter one's position in life, when death comes, we all end up the same." The whisk is something that only a SHOGUN would carry in life, so this may represent the skull of a dead SHOGUN. A beautifully executed vase. The worksmanship is superb. Signed by maker, KI BUNDO ZO, by artist SHOGEN on the bottom. Comes with original wooden storage box. The vase measures 11 7/8" tall by 4" in diameter. (dorususu)
Age: Meiji Period (1868-1912)
Size: 11 7/8"H by 4"Diameter
