Description: Japanese Edo Period hand painted wooden fan with early 20th century silk tassels. This wonderful and rare fan is beautifully hand painted with birds and flower on the front and abstract butterflies and bamboo leaves on the back. Each side has wonderful gold leaf design. The fan measures 11 7/8" tall, 18 1/2" wide when opened and 2 1/4" thick. The wood portion is from the Edo Period and the silk tassels have been replaced in the early 20th century. (donesu)
